Travertine
Hot Springs was my first natural hot spring experience. I found it on
a Saturday afternoon in October and I had the lower pools to myself for
awhile.
The smallest pool, at the base of the waterfall, is nice and hot. There was a lot of gray colored clay-mud in these pools, making it into a very potent mud bath. Plan to shower off after visiting. The hot water runs down the travertine formation's spine, through a small fissure.

Bridgeport, CA has about four places to lodge, and the same number of restaurants. Satisfying the main prerequisite, Bridgeport has a great fish and chips place. Nearby you will find Yosemite's eastern gate and also Lundy Canyon, which is featured here in my earlier Sierra pages. |
